During my first bachelors study, which was in the business/management field, I developed an interest in fitness and nutrition. Initially sparked by my own experience of an unhealthy relationship with food and my body, I wanted to gain better understanding of nutrition and health to help myself and eventually others. This meant enrolling in a Nutrition & Dietetics bachelor with the idea of becoming a Registered Dietician.
Though this study provided me some invaluable basics (biology, physiology, chemistry, pathology, assessing nutrition research, etc), I soon discovered that, for me, this wasn’t enough. I felt like something crucial was missing. Ever since recovering from unhealthy habits surrounding food and exercise I understood the importance of holistic health on a whole body level. I missed this crucial aspect in my studies, and I felt more and more that neither the curriculum nor the teachers were adept to explore this area. My outlook on wellbeing and a healthy diet and lifestyle didn’t rhyme with what was being taught in class and this gap only became bigger and bigger. I wasn’t interested in, nor agreed with, learning about insulin treatment for diabetics or how to teach these patients how to count carb grams for the rest of their lives. Instead, I was more interested in how to help these people prevent diabetes in the first place!
After a year of feeling like I wasn’t in the right place to develop my full potential to genuinely help others, I was finally able to say ‘I quit!’, after two years in. I had a very clear opinion on what true health entails and how I wanted to help other people attain this level of wellbeing. With a background in business and management and a background in and passion for health & nutrition, combined with a love for writing, photography, creating recipes and continual learning, I already had all the tools I needed to share my knowledge & enthusiasm and assist others in their journey.
Fast forward to today. I write articles to share my knowledge and experience. I specialize in holistic health and raw, whole food food nutrition. I am working on my first e-book and plan on writing many many more. I offer counseling packages for those interested in investing in their health and wellbeing. And in the near future I will be teaching workshops in raw food nutrition & preparation. I created my own dream job and I can only advice anyone to do the same.
