Recently I started a mediation course. It’s theory and practice combined which is perfect for me. I find it hard to do something, without knowing the ‘hows’ and, especially, the ‘why’s’. Last night was a big leap forward in my understanding of certain things which I’d like to share with you.
The Physical Body & The Energetic Body
Surrounding our physical bodies we have an energetic body. This is our life force, called prana (or chi, qi). With some practice and certain techniques, we can feel this energy, but usually we don’t. This energetic body can be influenced by our physical body and vice versa. That is why negative thoughts and especially recurring negative thoughts and emotions, can influence our physical well-being. This negative energy gets stored in our energetic body, weighing us down and reminding us again and again of this negativity, until we unblock it, accept it, let go of it. If we don’t, this old shit, as our teacher like to refer to it, can make us mentally and physically ill. This negative energy that is stored all around us will make these past traumas pop up again and again, creating a vicious cycle of negativity.
How Meditation Helps
The type of meditation we practice is called twin hearts meditation. You send out love, happiness and peace to loved ones and, eventually, to the planet as a whole. The goal of this meditation is ‘pranic healing’, healing our energetic bodies from old gunk.
I was curious: how can we possibly heal from past shit by sending out love? Our teacher gave a simple yet brilliant (and correct…) answer:
‘Love Trumps Hate’
And other nasty stuff, like fear, anger, frustration and sadness. By sending love, you create love. You give the gift of love, happiness and peace, and this gift will always come back to you. By sending love you feel love. By feeling love, you dissolve, bit by bit, old shit stored in your energetic body, be that emotions surrounding past events or people, trauma, or self-doubt, for example. Slowly but surely we unblock these negative thoughts and emotions.
Instead of hate, fear, anger, frustration, sadness, we now turn to love, happiness and peace as our go-to response. By sending out love, we heal ourselves, and hopefully create a ripple-effect around us.
Why don’t you try and send some love, happiness and peace to someone you love today and see how you feel afterwards?
