Hey guys, some stuff to fill your head with inspiration to make it through the week
Free Documentary (Time Sensitive): Hungry for Change

This baby is going viral so maybe you’ve already picked up on it, but the directors of ‘Food Matters’ just released their new documentary ‘hungry for change’. I personally loved it, and I love their cast. All of those specialist are very experienced in their respective fields, but are also the living examples of what they promote, having had serious health issues in the past and overcoming them (cancer, morbid obesity, crazy addictions, etc). RAWkathon Interview with David Wolfe
Oops, this post wasn’t meant to be David Wolfe-heavy but alas. You can say what you want about the guy, he does seem to be making some very strong and valid points, often. (And the rest of the time he’s a babbling psychopath, in his own charming way…).
But this interview is something I think you wouldn’t/shouldn’t want to miss. There’s really some nuggets of gold in there. Very inspirational, eye-opening and fascinating. And David is on fire (is he ever not?).
You can listen to my uploaded recording of the 2011 rawkathon interview with David Wolfe here.
An Online Recap of My ALL TIME Favorite Book: In Defense of Food
Ok, so, nothing will substitute for reading In Defense of Food (what are you waiting for?), but this is a great recap of the book, by my homeboy Pollan himself. This book changed the way I ate, back in the day, drastically.
“Eat food. Not too much, Mostly plants”
-Michael Pollan
(Start at minute 7:30, unless you want a long-winded intro to Michael Pollan)

First baseline everything what is wrong…(make everybody mostly agree) have a bit of different popular speakers that have different opinions, but only let some of the opinion be shown… Say things like fructose bad… carbohydrates bad…
WTF (what the fruit) is wrong with fructose and glucose…. where is the science. Again with the sugar makes you fat, fat does not…. (its the opposite, biochemistry, its not so black and white btw)
White refined sugar, bread and paste != sugar from whole fruits
The documentation is full with conflicting information, it will make a novice watcher very confused on what to do! It does have a lot of good information but its a bit fragmented.
I personally really dislike David Wolfe in the way he is selling his supplements and so called super foods, he is all about the money these days. Basically I think the whole video is about money to promote the speakers.
The part about chemicals comes by very fast, but is very important, we are polluting our environment together with our bodies on such large scales, its alarming.
I found Food Matters from 2008 to be better, but I guess this video will get some traction and hopefully get people to become more healthy, every step in the right direction is a good one, and there are multiple roads that lead to a more healthy lifestyle
My advice; dump all the processed food, do your shopping’s at farmer markets or similar. And people please… powders are not foods!
“Drink up, carb up, sleep up… cos everyday is the day to live it up!”

Jelle they do not say fruit is bad, they are distinctly talking about refined, processed and concentrated products, where the carbs/sugars are refined and fructose is concentrated (in fruit it is not). Like Kris says: if it grows in your garden, eat it (including any raw food, like fruit).
My guess is they purposefully leave out scientific numbers and mumbo jumbo in order to make the film accesible and understandable. It’s an honest movie that doesn’t point fingers to one bad nutrient or hails one way of eating. Instead, it pleas the viewer to go back to basics and eat REAL FOOD. Not dwell on macronutrients… you have to understand a lot of people are not even familiar with raw or vegan food (“I thought vegan was a planet”). Talking about going raw or carbloading will confuse people even more (and is going against their point of view: to single out one specific nutrient and make it the bad guy). Fats are not the enemy, neither are carbs not proteins. It’s not about that, it’s about eating real food.
I don’t agree the movie is about promoting the participants and their products. For example Mike Adams is the health ranger, from naturalnews.com. Not once did I saw mention of is terrific website (shame), or Kris Carr’s book ‘crazy sexy diet’, or David Wolfe’s superfoods. Yes he likes to sell and promote products, but obviously for this movie his intent was completely different, just to give his view on a healthy diet.
The ONLY conflicting theory I came across in the movie was saying concentrated foods are bad, but juice is good. I face this dilemma daily myself. I still believe juice is healthy but that there are certain downsides to it, esp if you add a lot of fruit, so I make my juices primarily veg/green based. I also don’t recollect them mentioning/promoting powders…

I watched the movie last night and LOVED it. I love how they start with the food aspect and go into areas that I feel are just as (if not more so) important. Highly recommend it and will again.
Thanks also for the David Wolfe link – just finished listening to it and it and found it very interesting. I feel strongly about the synchronicity aspect and like how he simplified it. Great stuff!!!! Have a fabulous weekend!
Yay great to hear you found it worthwhile, I love sharing stuff like this.
Have a great weekend babe! (and let me know what you think of ‘the four agreements’!
I LOVED Hungry For Change! So great to see a film that is not promoting a single diet like veganism, raw food or low carb. I also loved how they touched on other aspects of health like cosmetics, self love and exercise (I would have liked to see more on this). Such a fantastic catalyst for change

YES I loved that they touched on cosmetics too, albeit very briefly. Great starting point for the next docu…. I hope! I seriously cannot imagine anymore using all that make-up and products like I used to.. my skin is still a bit problematic but I dont feel the urge to slather on make-up like it’s no-ones business. Dry brush, water, coconut oil, mascara, thats it. Love it!
Heey, would you mind commenting the link? Somehow I can’t open anything when clicking on the picture.
I’m dying to see the movie!

I like the point of view of Pollan! There are not many people, even in the raw food/healthy food scene who address the nutrient-thing. Like that perspective a lot!
I myself am only struggeling with the carb-question. When I eat raw foods and add too many carbs from protein and fats, even those “good” ones, I feel less energy. Now I’m trying out a modified 80/10/10 according to Graham and it’s all about carbs. It works with energy. Just the carbs are good ones. Mostly fruit and some veggies. That’s it. Impossible to overeat.

I was hoping to find time sooner, but made it in time to read and post about it anyway. Not loads of new information, but surely full of good reminders by people I admire and great stuff for people with different backgrounds
