Tonics, or elixers, are potent drinks with very powerful health benefits and healing properties. As with anything in liquid form, they don’t require digestion and are easily absorbed and effectively used by the body. Tonics can contain either a small or large amount of ingredients and are able to work on different ailments by targeting different areas of the body (blood, liver, digestive tract, etc). Herbs, spices and superfoods are the main components of elixirs and tonics. Last week I created my very first tonic which I shared on Facebook. I have been drinking and loving it every day since, so I decided I should share it with all of you guys on here too. (But hint: I plan on sharing more quick recipes on just facebook instead of dedicating blog posts to them!).
Holistic Skin Tonic
* 1.5 cups warm water
* juice of 1/2 lemon
* 2 tsp. MSM powder
* 1 tsp. raw organic honey
* liquid or powdered probiotics
* 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar (optional)
* 1 few drops Stevia, to taste
Drink twice a day, preferably upon awaking and before bed.
If new to MSM, start with 1/2 tsp, twice a day and listen to your body.
This tonic is great for clear, glowing skin, your immune system and overall health and here’s all the reasons why:
Lemon juice is extremely alkaline forming (an alkaline body is a healthy body, remember?). Lemon juice is also full of vitamin C and enzymes and help the liver with detoxifying. MSM detoxifies your body on a cellular level and strengthens skin, hair and nails and help scars heal faster. Raw organic honey is an ancient superfood with mild antibacterial and antiviral effects which will boost your immune system. Probiotics help fight off ‘bad’ bacteria in your gut to keep you healthy. Skin issues can also be caused by candida overgrowth so if that is the case for you, probiotics are invaluable. Apple cider vinegar is another one at the top of the list of alkaline forming foods and has been touted to work wonders on acne, allergies, weight loss and many more things, probably due to it’s anti-inflammatory effects. Make sure you get raw, organic and unfiltered ACV, like Bragg’s (iHerb.com). Last but not least, Stevia cuts through the MSM and apple cider vinegar taste without adding additional sugars. Stevia is a healthy sugar alternative, natural & alkaline forming, though if you don’t have it on hand try without or add a little extra raw honey.
Cheers!

An exfoliating and detoxification combined? It is really an amazing concoction you have here. I would truly follow your lead on this. I am sure this works.
