Aaah I totally love this post! It’s so you-you-you. Good to see you ‘back in to life as you know it’. It sounds like an awesome life, that suits you like a charm <3
Love this post, I have to say that your cleanse diary was very helpful and I love your attitude towards raw / cooked foods. I’ve recently just started getting more into raw foods but I want to be able to keep a good balance with cooked foods too, especially with the colder weather approaching. LOVE that tattoo too!
yes, I am deliberately eating cooked dinners because I know in the winter I won’t want to/ be able to keep up eating high raw anyway, and transitioning is easier on the body. that, and I still like to cook
Oh, I so get your decision on quitting the pill. I’m on it now for 10 years or so and I really don’t like the idea of putting hormones in my body. But, I have a boy and I’m still not sure what I want as an alternative, so I just ordered a new package..
Great post overall: it contains so much nice information. Love the tat!
Great post! I somehow stumbled onto your blog the other day looking for recipes, I have to say you are really inspiring! I’ve been vegan for a year and have become interested in my own personal health and have been toying with the idea of trying to up my raw food intake (albeit minus a processor and juicer) and taking up yoga and I think i’m going to do it after reading the things you write. So thanks for being inspiring!!
Well written post, loved reading it. Have a great time with all those new toys. Also digging the tattoo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prana! I guess it takes some real guts to do a colon cleansing and posting about it Your wheatgrass post inspired me to start doing some of my own wheatgrass and sprouting experiments. Thank you and keep it going.

I get what you mean about just naturally choosing many raw foods once your body is familiar with them… I tend to be completely comfortable having raw breakfasts and lunches, but generally making a raw dinner is more stress than its worth… This could be partly because of my husband though, who hates cold foods even in the summer.
By the way, good for you for quitting the pill! I did that a few years ago in an effort to keep my body natural and free of artificial hormones. I didn’t have a period for 2 years after I stopped. Now I do, but they are completely irregular. Even though this has been bothersome and worries me that my body isn’t doing what it should, it just affirms my belief that the pill is not good for people! Oddly enough, I met 3 other girls from my group of 20 at my yoga teacher training who had all had a similar experience with the pill. I hope this doesn’t happen to you, I’m just trying to say good job because people underestimate how much it can affect us!
ugh scary and exactly why i quit! what do you use now, if I may be so bold?
i have more cooked dinner because if i’m gonna eat (heavier) cooked foods, i’d rather do it at the end of the day so as to not slow me down, and I still like cooking as well! i like cooking more than uncooking (as in, when eating raw, i’d rather stick to simple fresh foods!)
Honestly, I just use condoms now, which I know many men and women are not big fans of for multiple reasons… I have had friends who had non-hormonal (copper I believe) IUDs and liked them. I may eventually look in to something like that, but for now it doesn’t seem like my body has even normalized completely so I want to do the least invasive thing until it does.
Ah I see, thanks for replying! yes I am way to paranoia to use *just* condoms I guess haha. ive heard of the copper spiral and it certainly sounds like the best option to me, but I read some docs refuse to give you one :s. wth is wrong with this world, sigh.
Hey Sabine! I’ve been lurking for awhile. I’m a vegan and definitely eat lots of whole unprocessed foods but wouldn’t consider myself very ‘raw’ yet. I was just curious if you had any idea how much protein you were getting when you do your juice fasts. I’m not trying to be critical at all and I definitely don’t think we need loads of protein like society makes us think, but I was just curious. I feel like I could live on fruits and veggies (ok mostly fruits haha) because I love them so much but I always get a little concerned about my protein intake. Would love to hear your thoughts!
It will depend on your exercise levels, protein is broken down to amino acids, which are also present in vegetables! You body can maintain muscle and other processes just fine on vegetables. However if you exercise a lot or doing muscle strength trainings I can recommend raw protein supplements. I used to do weight trainings but currently I’m only doing fitness bootcamps and running trainings and I am still able to build lean muscle, however If I start my strength trainings again I will be taking raw protein mixes after the trainings.
You can also experiment a lot with how you digest the protein, search for food combining for more info. I currently only take protein with water or nut milk, and always as the last meal of the day.
I would advice to listen to your body, if got a lot of muscle soreness after exercise for prolonged days increase your protein intake. (hemp, pea, rice protein) http://www.iherb.com/Proteins
Hi Meagan, don’t worry that’s a good question! yes this question can be a bit annoying for ‘generic’ vegans haha, but when juice gasting or eating tons of fruit, it”s a valid question.
The most important thing to know is that almost all plant based foods contain at least 10% of protein. So, if you consume enough calories a day, whatever the plant-based source, you will be getting enough protein! Even from fruit. But, it would be good to include other things as there are certain amino acids (proteins building blocks) we need and I doubt fruit contains all the essential amino acids in big enough quantities. but ive been eating tons of fruit, combined with greens, for some weeks now and as long as you also eat some other stuff, you’ll be fine.
ps on a jice FEAST you’d be consuming plenty of protein, on a juice FAST you might be consuming too little, which is why it is not reocmmended to do an extended juice FAST.
I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time now and I just like many others find it very inspirational! I was trying to find a good detox programme online a while back, and had been looking what felt like everywhere online to discover something healthy without success (they all suggested pills and “liverjuices” which felt like it takes away the main purpose to me). Influenced by your ideas I was feeling much better and cleaner 2 weeks later (I wasn’t as hardcore as you )
I have a suggestion for a birthcontrol alternative, having wanted to avoid hormones myself – a copper spiral. You can google for Flexi-T. I got one placed 2 years ago and the only side effect I’ve experienced is slightly increased pains 1-2 days as well as slightly increased bleeding. Other than that you don’t even think about it and there are no hormones involved either! I thought only women that had given birth could have one but I was proven wrong. Highly recommended!!!

Hi karin, so good to hear some of my ideas were of help to you
and thank you so much for that recommendation- i’ve looked it up and am reading a lot of good reviews on it. I am going to discuss this with my GP!
