Morning guys!
I’ll be brutally honest with you: my mind isn’t focused that much on blogging these days! Normally blog posts, topics & hilarious one-liners (..) keep popping in my head all day long and I have lists and post drafts for potential posts everywhere, but not right now. I am enjoying a lot of downtime in the kitchen, the park & the Yoga studio! It’s wonderful actually and I’m enjoying it while it lasts
. Today I’ll be visiting my mom to catch up, and give my poor dog a big sloppy hug for he had to had his nails surgically removed, again. Poor thing. After that I’ll be dropping off ‘cupcakes’ at my nieces’ birthday party. She turned 10, the perfect age to get them started on raw cacao/caffeine, no? Tonight, I’d like to make my infamous pumpkin-curry-coconut soup for B & me, so fingers crossed I can find a pumpkin!!
The last two days I’ve been eating pretty much all raw, except for some bread in the evenings. Which is weird, since my night-time snacks used to be healthy(ish), homemade stuff and/or fruit. Like homemade chocolates or whatever. I’ve decided I’d rather eat a healthy cooked dinner, if I’m going to eat something that isn’t raw, than munch on bread with random toppings! Other than that, I haven’t had cravings or urges for cooked food at all. Also, in daily life I don’t really look at food too much as raw versus cooked anymore, apart from maybe when I eat a dinner together with someone. Other than that, I opt for ‘fresh’ and wholesome foods automatically, which to me is synonymous with raw. The amount of packaged items I buy has been steadily declining for some months now, and it becomes much more natural to only buy produce and nuts at the store. Basically, if all you have lying around in your fridge & cupboards is just that: fresh & wholesome foods, that’s what you reach for, without having to think ‘is this raw?” (enter the bread I keep on hand for B-boy… lol). Disclaimer: I am in no way inclining bread is not healthy, it can certainly be (plus, it’s heavenly). I am just sayin’ I’d rather eat a cooked meal with some nice whole grains and cooked veggies, a chili, a soup, one of my own concontions, then scarving down some bread late evening (aka, something homemade versus store-bought).
Ok, care for some random food porn & misc.?

I accidentally grew some Chard & kale, lol. The boy and I planted this some months ago and after that I got fed up because everyone and their mother kept insisting growing your own plants is like rocket-science,a nd not as easy as just throwing some seeds into the ground. I RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE. I hadn’t done a thing to these babies in months lol.

Coconut Whipped Cream
Yields ~ 2 cups
* 1 cup cashews, soaked overnight
* meat of two Thai coconuts
* 1/3 cup water
* 2 t vanilla extract
* 1 T agave
Blend or process until completely smooth and fluffy. Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Devour. Especially good on fresh berries & baked goods, as frosting!
Turns out this IS dinosaur kale, aka the healthiest green on the face of the Earth (not counting wheatgrass…)
My latest addiction: kale chips!
Small iHerb order (tagged along with a friends’): bee pollen (uh-ma-zing stuff, tastes so good too!), RAW nori sheets (impossible to get around here it seems), mesquite powder (ancient sweetener chockful of essential amino acids & fiber, awesomeness), raw coconut nectar (natural, raw & low GI sweetener made from coconut! I’d been looking for a good alternative to agave and I think this is it! more on this later)
Elegant & fresh summer dinner I prepped for me & friend M last night. Avocado/cucumber gazpacho (read: raw soup) with a simple pesto & basil topped salad.

VERY awesome lunch: (yellow) zucchini linguini topped with butternut curry sauce, raisins & cayenne-spiked almonds. Gotta love Indian flavors!
Butternut Curry Sauce
* 200 g butternut squash (raw)
* 1 T oil
* 3 T curry (massala/kerrie)
* 1 T paprika
* dash of salt
Add ingredients to blender or processor and start blending. Drizzle in enough water to keep things going, but you’ll want to keep the sauce nice & thick so don;t add too much. Great for Indian dishes!
Hers. With tempeh & homemade sunflower tomato spread
Leftovers for lunch, paired with kale chips <3
& a teaser:

EPIC new granola recipe. Stay tuned.
Enjoy your sunny day all!
Love,
Sabine

Hoi Sabine,
I am so hungry right now! I can’t get my hands on a butternut squash or kale. I also disagree that growing your own plants is like rocket-science, maybe I will write some posts about this. I got my raw nori sheets from unlimitedhealth.nl, so that is pretty close by for you. Cheerio
I think I bought my butternut at the ‘ten kate’ markt and kale I but at the Noordermarkt! are you in amsterdam?
Not living in Amsterdam, I live in Berkel en Rodenrijs. I do visit Amsterdam on a regular basis so I may just plan in a visit sometime.
go on a saturday early AM and score tons of dino kale at the Noordermarkt
. ooh and hemp seeds at a really good price the stall across from them (raw superfoods)
I LOVEAll ur raw eats!! i didnt realize how yummy raw could be!
It’s fun to read about your amazing raw eats! I am kind of somewhere completely different! I just started an extremely stressful job with long working hours and 3 hours commute each and every day of the work week
So I’ve been trying to come up with easy portable and healthy snacks and a small “first dinner”. I am so glad when I get a less stressful job someday!! Until then I am determined to keep up healthy eating (even though I am prone to stress-eating and “mood snacking”) and try and keep myself inspired by your posts
I think raw foods can be amazing especially when living a stressful live. raw foods can be made very gourmet and overly complicated, but also totally simply and nourishing, just what you need when you live a hectic life
Just when I finished making a probiotic & enzyme salad (the kimberly snyder one, LOVE that book) I stumbled upon your blog and saw you were recently doing the same. And that you are making glowing green smoothies also! And juicing and eating many raw, living foods. And I looove bikram yoga, I do it almost every day! And then I saw you actually live in Amsterdam, (half US half NL) like me haha! This is kind of freaky right?
A few days ago I (also huge health nut) also took an xtc pill (I know bad habit) which threw got my totally off balance, making me feel like there was a big dark fog around me… So it sounded so familiar to read your posts. Your blog is so inspirational and honest, you made my night!!
wow that is freaky, so many similarities haha. do you live in amsterdam currently? i am just about to make a new probiotic & enzyme salad, I eat almost a cup a day now & loving it! i did switch back from GGS to ‘superfood’ green smoothies aka greens blended with fruit and some superfoods like maca & bee pollen, just prefer ‘em this way (at the moment at least)!
Wauw!
Liefs,
Marike
ik vind de bijenpollen super! weet niet of het mn hele nieuwe smoothie combi is of just the bee pollen, maar krijg zeker energie van mn smoothie
. en ik vind ze eigemnlijk ook best lekker smaken, fris-zuur!
Interesting post! I’m curious about one thing though: are bee pollen vegan? Because they come from bees (or so I’ve been told) I thought technically they aren’t vegan. But now I see them on your blog and it makes me doubt, so please tell me!
I can’t find kale anywhere. Normally they’re only available in this area in the winter. I think I have to look further away for kale this time of year. To bad: I’m very curious about kale chips, kale in smoothies, etc.!
bee pollen are vegan, yes! I was confused too (although admittedly I never looked it up, just assumed, what’s in a name right?) but bee pollen are actually pollen from flowers! they just call them bee pollen because, I guess, bees use them too
[...] Strawberries with cashew/coconut whipped cream [...]
Hi Sabine!! Just want to say I love your blog and look forward to your posts everyday!! You are a constant inspiration to me and reminder raw food can be both easy and delicious! I do have a question, there is many recipes you make for example the coconut whipped cream in this recipe that call for nuts, I am very allergic! Have you ever tried replacing with seeds? And if so, should I replace with the same amount of nuts you use? Thank you<3
