Hiya guys!
My apologies for my lack of posting yesterday, but I was out & about having a nice ‘me day‘! I did a juice fast again after it had been some time and it was lovely. This was the easiest and thus most enjoyable fast so far! I experienced next to no hunger and my energy was high all day, no slump whatsoever. I seriously couldn’t tell a difference from a day of (very healthy) eating, maybe except for that I didn’t have to think about what to eat next. Although I probably made up for that by drooling over all the fresh salad images that kept popping up in my head….
So what do I consume on a fasting day anyway? Yesterday I had:
One glass of H2O + juice of half a lemon
One tall glass of organic Rooibos tea
One big juice (beet, Romaine, etc)
One bottle of water
One cup fresh mint tea
One cup green tea
One small glass H2O + lemon juice
One tall glass of organic Rooibos tea
One large juice (pears, Romaine, broccoli, etc)
One tall glass of organic Rooibos tea
B12 supplement + 6 Chlorella tablets (recommended intake)
Very cool new supplement I had been lusting over! I’ve had Spirulina powder for months (picked it up in NY) but never use it since the taste is rather… ocean-y. Chlorella and spirulina are much easier consumed in tablet-form, if you ask me. I don’t take many supplements (B12 1-2 times a week and a daily probiotic is all I take on a constant basis. I take a vegan multivitamin on days where I ate poorly or too little (for instance when I was sick), so, hardly ever) but I plan on incorporating some that gently aid in cleansing the body (as opposed to supplements that one would need to receive adequate intakes for vitamins etc). Mainly, it’s full of chlorophyll, and we all know how much I love the big C..

I kept day-dreaming about the apple – beet – tempeh carpaccio I made me and my mom Saturday, so I made a fancied-down tossed version for my lunch on Sunday, which was every bit as delicious! On a serious tempeh kick (again).
Remember me mentioning this meal was a food combining disaster? Well, as it turns out, it may not be all that bad seeing as how acid and subacid fruits, like apples, combine a little better with proteins than sweeter fruits, in terms of pH requirements in the stomach (although I am guessing not in terms of transit times). Sorry if all this food combining mumbo-jumbo is getting a little boring for some of you, I am fascinated by it at the moment trying to figure it out for myself so I can incorporate the principles in the correct manner and experience any changes. There’s quite a lot to learn and understand though but I am starting to get the hang of it more & more. I can’t quite put my finger on it but I have the feeling proper food combining is a very powerful and essential tool for a truly healthy diet. When I get hunches like this I always just go for it and see where it takes me, which has never dissapointed me in the past!
When my mom came over for dinner this weekend she took her angel cards with her and did a session with me, while we had some pretty amazing conversations about our past, present and futures, Yoga, meditation, Reiki, love, life, afterlife and much more. On the surface me and my mom are like water and fire (or, like our Chinese signs would suggest, like rabbit and dragon
), but when it comes down to the things that really matter, the core, we believe in a lot of the same things, something we are discovering more and more each day.
I took a pictures of these two cards because they resonated with me for obvious reasons. I told my mom that also with Yoga, I can’t decipher why I feel an actual need to go right now. It’s not just that I like it, I really need it for some reason. It was surreal to read what one of my cards read:
“Yoga and physical exercises are currently essential for your well-being, inner peace and your spiritual growth”
One of my other cards made me realize how much writing this blog means to me. It’s not just a hobby or pastime for me, writing this blog above all feels like part of my mission, part of who I am and what I came here to do; find the tenets of true health and share my knowledge with as many as possible!
“You are a spiritual teacher. You have the ability to guide others and to help them develop their own spiritual gifts and devine life task” (I prefer the word mission, though)
Speaking of Yoga, I’ve had two very amazing last Bikram sessions. Last week I took my friend B to her first ever Yoga class and she loved it! I really liked introducing someone to Yoga, I think it’s an incredible thing to share with someone you care about. That class rocked in so many ways. First, the opening Pranayama (breathing) exercise felt comfortable for the first time. Normally my neck starts to hurt like crazy, but now I felt like before I was holding back, and now I was letting go. Then, I was able to do the first backbend (half moon) asana for the first time! That pose, as simple as it may look, always gets the best of me, I always choke up. Last week I rocked it. Same for bow pose and some other poses. I couldn’t literally see a difference in the mirror, but the difference was definitely there, and it felt so exciting! I was like, wait, whut? The morning and all day after I felt like a trainwreck, physically. Heavy, sore, lethargic. Obviously, changes are manifesting.

Then this Saturday I had quite a tough time. I could feel my body and spirit were a bit tired and wornout. I felt a tiny bit light-headed as well, which ‘ve never experienced during Bikram class except for that legendary one time… I simply took it easy and gentle and everything was fine. Until in bow pose, I was able to see my toes! Scared the shit out of myself haha, so amazing! I also nearly cried during the first savasana (dead body pose). I was experiencing so many things in my body, we were allowed to rest, and the teacher was telling a beautiful story on how Yoga brings people together. It felt really intense.

Some other weekend highlights:
Post Bikram Breakfast. I was craving nothing but a huge buttload of fresh, organic fruit, yum!
Homemade apple pie baby! As per Angela’s recipe. Second time I made this and I can truly say it rocks!

A wonderful home cooked meal from Melissa: curried lentil & black bean soup (with some raisins thrown in!) and Quinoa salad. This totally hit the spot.
I enjoyed a nice bowl of best oat bran on Sunday. Was nice to switch things up again.
Last night, prepping breakfast for the next three days, Glowing Green Smoothies!
Almost overloaded my Vita there hehe
What was the highlight of your weekend?
Love,
Sabine

loved this post, tons of great food pictures!
i actually think the food combining thing is quite interesting and it’s much easier for me if someone else figures the whole lot out and then explains it in laymen terms for me, so go ahead
!
I like your weekend recap. Me and Genesis are doing a juicefast today so this is a very welcome post. I’m just wondering if we can do a bikram class on just drinking juice all day.
how exciting ladies! i’ve always avoided doing streneous workouts- which I consider Bikram too be- when doing a juice fast, and instead enjoy light exercise like walking, jogging, cycling, being active in general. and I did a sweet & short yoga session at home yesterday too. I wouldn’t go to Bikram, especially if this is your first time trying a fast, but do whatever feels right to you! I do have to add that juice fasting is very cleansing, as is Bikram, and it might be too much on the body at once, if you’re not very progressed in the cleansing process.
let me know how it went babes!
OMG I am so hungry. Just the thought of not being able to eat bread today makes me just think about it all the time.
So far we had a cup of green tea, juice from oranges/pineapple/watermelon, a cup of fresh mint tea, juice from spinach, celery and carrots and now hot water with freshly squeezed lemon juice.
all of the food looks so absolutely delicious!
how often do you juice fast and why? I had been thinking about trying it myself sometime. Any beginners tips?
I would really like to see some more tips on fasting as well. The points you mentioned in the past make me very interested, but I am scared to do it myself…
You had a wonderfull weekend, according to this blog. Nice to read all the things that are going on!
I’ve been practising yoga again since a couple of weeks and I can only say that I need more practice. Almost every pose is making me feel very uncomfortable, my muscles are just to short! Afterwards I love the feeling it gives me, so I just continue and hope someday it will be better.
The juice fast looks difficult! I only see two real juices on your list! If I would do a juice fast, I probably would take at least 5 glasses of juice on that day. But then again: I never looked into it, so maybe that’s to much
. I like solid foods and I think a juice fast would be very challenging for me. Still, I think I could benefit from it, so maybe someday..
