Happy sunny weekend all!
A few nights ago the boy and I watched ‘Food Matters’, a legendary documentary about the health care industry and nutrition with some top notch experts from the field like the founder of the Gerson institute. I was also happily surprised to see David Wolfe make a rather big appearance. He’s an authority in the raw foods & superfoods community and travels all over the world to give lectures. Also, he’s my new superhero because according to him, chocolate is the number one superfood. Who can argue with that?!
I loved the documentary going in, lot’s of perspective on the health epidemic and a brief word about the harm in processing and even cooking food. I love how this movie, more so than Food Inc and other food industry documentaries, depicts wonderfully how addicted to drugs we all collectively are. Headache? We pop ibuproven. The sniffles? We pop antihistamines. Upset stomach? We pop gastric acid blockers (or whatever). It’s so true that pills and most medical professionals only cure the symptoms, not the underlying problem nowadays. Yet, the body is magnificent and comes with a built-in recovery system, all we have to do is give it right nutrition and reduce stressors!
What made this documentary good, yet not great in my opinion, is that some of the professionals interviewed talked too much about isolated vitamins and vitamin therapy. Getting an IV with several thousand times the RDI for vitamin xx is, if you ask me, still taking drugs, and still unnatural. I do agree taking high doses of vitamins or a particular vitamin to cure illness is still better than invasive surgery or chemical pills, yet still not the most desirable solution; whole foods! People need to learn to not be depended on super high doses of anything, especially not taken in such an unnatural way (pill,s IV’s) but rather heal the body naturally and sustainably.
All in all still a very valuable contribution to understanding our bodies and the power of natural healing/the woes of modern medicine!
Hope you all enjoy a great weekend, I’m off for some indoor rock-climbing (finally)! And perhaps…
Some more tanning…
Eating more salads…
Dehydrating more stuff..
& drinking homemade almond mylk
Love,
Sabine

Looks like an awesome film, I need to check it out.
Enjoy your weekend!
I’ve seen it and actually had the exact samer thoughts as you! That somewhat olde guy that is being filmed a lot, he especially talks too much about ‘vitamin therapy’ and I was like… it’s a bit hipocrite?
Hihi your legs don’t look that tan yet. Sorry, I’m a Southern US citizen so my legs are tan all year round
. You do have very tones legs though, jealous!
I love when you share this info with us! So interesting.
It’s crazy because I used to get headaches along with taking ibuprofen pretty much EVERYDAY. It was miserable. But now that I stay away from those overly processed foods my headaches have disappeared completely! Just goes to show how important eating whole foods really is.
i rly wnt to see that! how did you watch it?? /where did you watch it?
i definitely agree with you on the vitamin thing.. whole foods all the way!
enjoy your weekend!

Will add to M’s comment above that I love how you spend so much time on living a healthy and happy life, having this awesome new-found, constructive lifestyle. Keep up the good work!
Ha, I think your legs already have a nice colour! Mine are like bottles of (rice)milk
.
Love the words of Hippocrates by the way, they are so true!
LOVE that movie, LOVE the book by Mark Bittman, too.
Michael Pollan also writes amazing truths as well.
This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE food docu. So right on. So good. It’s sad how our governments would allow for us to be ginea pigs for profit.. but it’s the way our world is these days. I will elaborate more in an upcoming post… however I will just say something is fucked up when I take a wholesome homemade food (some raw truffles) to a party and people are freaked out by the ingredients, yet have no problem whatsoever stuffing their face w/ a bag of chips containing 20+ chemicals they can’t even pronounce. WTF?!?!
In other news.. still lusting after your dehydrator. Been frequenting Craiglist so I can find a good deal.
Also, for the other readers of this post:
Food Matters is available on Netflix to watch instantly.. if you have that
Possessing examine this I bleeevid it absolutely was quite useful. I recognize you taking enough time and hard work to place this short article collectively. I when once again discover myself paying strategy to considerably time the two looking at and commenting. But so what, it absolutely was nonetheless worthwhile!
