Morning fellas!
‘Tis the weekend, whoop whoop! I had a marvelous Yoga sesh yesterday, it was devine. Yin Yang Yoga started with a lot of Yin Asanas (feminine, slow, cold) and we finished off with lots of Yang Asanas (fast, masculine, strength, hot). Both the Yin and Yang were challenging. We had to hold every Yin position for 5 (!!) minutrs. Ack! That’ll guarantee to make you feel every discomfort in your body. I dedicated this Yoga practise to helping my organs detox and funnily enough the teacher spoke a lot about our liver and kidneys and how they have to function well for us to feel well, physically but also mentally. Cool!
We had to hold this position for 5 minutes and by the end, I got to the floor with my elbows!
Now let’s talk sum more detox! It’s going super well, although I really have to start doing the meditation & affirmations as well, not just the food & physical detox (yoga, dry brushing, exercise) part. This weekend, I promise!
I had a minor rough patch with the salad thang after 2 less than stellar salads but I’m back in the game! I put my fears aside, bought some more & varied produce and started plotting. The results? Two UH-MAH-ZING salad recipes!
Super Fruit Salad with Coconut Dressing
* 2 hands endive, teared into pieces
* red cabbage, slivered
* blue grapes
* dried apricots, slivered
* 1 dried fig, slivered
* black & green olives, halved
* macademias, halved
* dressing: 1.5 T coconut oil, warmed
This. was. SO. good! Loved the sweet of the fruit with the saltiness of the olives & macademias and the exoticness of the coconut oil. Also, raw cabbage is nice and crunchy. The salad I made for yesterdays lunch was terrific as well!
Hearty Detox Salad
* 2 hands endive, teared into pieces
* 1 handful raw red cabbage, slivered
* 1 raw beetroot, peeled and cubed
* 1 carrot, sliced & halved
* 2 pickles, sliced
* green & black olives, halved
* raw pine nuts
* raw shelled hemp seeds
* lotsa homemade vegan pesto
Total nom. I’ll definitely be keeping eating much more salads even when the detox is over! The boy is also happily chomping along:
My little rabbit
The boy loves his protein…
And now, for the piece du resistance!
ChocoCado Mousse
Yields one serving
Adapted from Healthy Hoggin’
* 1 medium ripe avocado
* ½ cup frozen cherries
* 3 T milk of choice
* 2 T (raw) cacao powder
* 1 T agave
* 1 t vanilla extract
* 1 t Maca (optional!)
Scoop out the flesh of the avocado and throw all ingredients in blender or food processor, process until completely smooth. This is SUCH a great tasting dessert/treat, and so friggin’ healthy it’s unbelievable. I’ve seen countless variations of this (ohsheglows, choosingraw, kristensraw) but only now got around to making it myself. I want to hit myself over the pretty head.
You can replace the cherries with any frozen fruit (I bet blueberries & raspberries would also taste fab), you can use regular cacao powder or carob instead of raw cacao and the Maca is completely optional. Adding some sort of protein powder would also work great I bet and I plan in making this with one soaked date instead of agave as well.
Have a great day my loves! The boy and I are going to be tourists in our own town, maybe go for a long run, etc etc. I also started a new book: THRIVE by Brendan Brazier,the vegan ironman athlete. Finally! It’s so awesome. Plus, he’s hot. Just sayin’.
Love,
Sabine

Wow three amazing recipes! I am for sure going to try all three. I’m not that much into endive though so maybe I’ll just get some kale instead. But the combos look really refreshing. Are you eating all raw now? Is it hard? And you already feel a change? I’m thinking of getting the book myself as well.
Good weekend!
Good morning! Your Yoga session sounds awesome! I wish we had one like that around here, the class I used to go to was so boring. Ugh!
Those salads look great. I’m looking forward to making myself one of those, too.
I’ve been reading about that chococado mousse for quite a while, but never tried it either. I just can’t resist to turn my precious avocados into guacamole. Nom! Just wondering if a ripe banana would work in the mousse? I need to try that, I guess.
Have a great weekend!
Yes, I’ve tried using a banana in the mousse, and it’s delicious! It gets whipped and fluffy!! YUM.
Oh yum to that choc mousse!! I would love to make that this weekend. It would totally calm my rage this morning at having a guy throw my towel off my spin bike and try to claim it as his own!! Bit much for a Saturday morning!
Where did you get the frozen cherries if I may ask?
just at the supermarket
Awesome! Found them today and then came home and saw your reply. Can’t wait to try it out : )
dang that yoga sounds killer! LOVE this mousse recipeas well as those salads- esp the fruity one!
holding any asana for 5 minutes is REALLY long! I’m not sure starting out like that is a good plan for your body if it really starts hurting all over.. I learn to start most new poses for like 10 tot 20 seconds (which can already feel like eternity if you manage to get them right), and after a year and a half the maximum is still about 1 minute.
But I like the idea of balancing the programma with equal yin and yang poses, if you remember any names or descriptions and which were yin and which yang, let me know :p
xxx
Oh but it’s not supposed to hurt! it’s about leaning to deal with discomfort in a non judgmental way, like with meditation. yin poses are not like warrior poses or anything like that, it all on the ground so in theory they’re easy to hold. you can decide for yourself how difficult you want to make them. Sarah Powers is a well known yin yoga instructor, maybe you can find something there
Hey babe!
Update regarding the detox..
- I didn’t drink any black tea or coffee this week
- Going to Bikram yoga in about an hour (it’s been about 6 weeks- with turkey and all)
- Subbing milk for soy milk ( damn it’s much cheaper in Holland, I went to get some stash;) )
- subbing yoghurt for soy yoghurt ( i even like the taste better)
- adding chia seeds to my eats now
- subbing meat with veggie burgers and faux meats
The only thing I’m not able to commit to this week is “no alcohol”.. I usually drink alcohol about once a month and am trying to make it even less..
But i got free tickets to” Sensation white” with my girlfriends, so I’m gonna have a couple of drinks tonight..
Sometimes Life just happens.. Next week: No alcohol for sure!
Glad you enjoyed the pudding recipe! It’s one of my favorites for sure.
Raspberries are my second-favorite version– though, you do have to deal with some seeds. The blueberries blend right into the chocolate flavor, so it’s more of an “icier” pudding, rather than blueberry-flavored, but still delicious! It’s a fun experiment, because no matter what, you’ll end up with a tasty chocolate pudding!
that mousse looks divine!!! good luck w/ the meditation/affirmations! they really do have such an outstanding impact on your mental outlook! i swear by it.. the key is – don’t get discouraged!!!
that yoga sounds amazing!!
i haven’t tried the chocolate mousse with avocado yet, but i’ve seen it on the other blogs too. i’ll have to try it soon! and that fruity salad looks awesome.
